A co-creation with multi-disciplinary artist Josua Josua (IN/DE).
Songs from Sphincter is an explicitly homosexual and transgender theatre concert. It involves a play with the clichés, archetypes and social gestures of different concert formats, where especially the archetypes' gender coding is investigated and caricatured. Our theatre concert takes the form of a disheveled collage, not linear storytelling. Its theatrical qualities are associative, leaping and absurd: Oskar Schlemmer meets drag, Lynch meets punk, Chopin meets chainsaws.
Songs from Sphincter will be a modular, scalable performance that can be adapted to a number of different formats, from interventions on the street to dingy pubs, club nights and black boxes: We want to reach more people than those who usually show up at the box office of a theatre house. This is to be able to share weird, queer art with people who might ENJOY that kind of thing without knowing it yet, but also to BOTHER unsuspecting people who intended to spend their afternoon in peace and quiet with prayer books and homophobia. The project is thus political.
